Thirsty Cows and Happy Udders: Water Works at Proper Good Dairy

Have you ever wondered how much water a dairy cow drinks in a day? It might surprise you! Here at Proper Good Dairy, we take hydration seriously. After all, water is essential for healthy cows and delicious milk.

How Much Water Does a Cow Drink?

On average, a dairy cow drinks a whopping 70 - 100 litres water per day! That's like filling up a bathtub every single day! This amount can vary depending on factors like the cow's size, the weather, and their stage of lactation.

Why Water is Essential for Cows

Milk Production: Water is a key component of milk. A well-hydrated cow produces more milk and maintains good milk quality. Body Temperature Regulation: Cows don't sweat like humans, so they rely on water to help them stay cool, especially during hot weather. Digestion: Water helps cows break down their food and absorb nutrients, which is essential for their overall health. Nutrient Transport: Water helps transport essential nutrients throughout the cow's body, supporting their immune system and overall wellbeing.

Our Water Commitment

At Proper Good Dairy, we ensure our cows always have access to fresh, clean water, and we also add essential minerals to their water to ensure they receive all the nutrients they need. We have multiple water troughs strategically placed throughout their pastures and barns. We also monitor water quality regularly to ensure it meets our high standards.

Did You Know?

A cow's water intake increases significantly when they're lactating. In fact, a lactating cow can drink up to twice as much water as a non-lactating cow!

Hydration = Happy Cows and Delicious Milk

By prioritizing water intake, we ensure our cows stay healthy, comfortable, and productive. This translates to high-quality milk that's not only delicious but also packed with nutrients.
